"Broadcast Yourself" - YouTube

YouTube's slogan for their website is "Broadcast Yourself" meaning they want you to video tape yourself upon any topic that viewers may be interested in and come watch. Now it is pretty clear that it is impossible to watch every single video on YouTube, there's just too many. Very few go viral, mainly because most videos aren't interesting and are just plain stupid with no meaning. Videos that have recently been catching people's attention are confession videos using cue cards. There have been different topics for these videos for example, bullying, thoughts of suicide, family problems etc. Did you know that according to a study by The University of Guelph, in their psychology department, 50 per cent of local students report being bullied and don't feel safe at school. Also a study in Britain found that at least half of suicides among young people are related to bullying. YouTube has an impact on society by giving these bully victims (or whatever the case may be) a chance to express their feelings. These videos are great videos to stop bullying. Watching these videos makes you realize that your life isn't that bad and that you have it a lot better than others. Trust me when I say that you never know who's hiding behind a fake smile, you never know what kind of a life they lived.

Watch the video below before reading the rest of the blog.

The girl in the video is my sister's best friend. She's like a second sister to me. She's one of the happiest people I know. Well at least I thought she was. My sister and I didn't know she went through all of this. It shows that in person she couldn't handle telling people even her close friends what she's been through. YouTube makes a big impact on these people, allowing them to send a message that no matter how bad life seems, there's always someone there who loves you and that life does get better. YouTube has this big impact on society because it let's us see how bullying can really hurt someone from a personal point of view and not just let's say your teacher for example who keeps telling you bullying is bad.

Getting noticed through YouTube

I find that many people use YouTube to listen to music. Although YouTube is not only for music videos, there are so many users who make their own singing videos mainly because they enjoy singing but also with hope to get noticed. As you all know it is tough to show your musical talent around the world because I believe that you need to know somebody in the music industry to get a chance at being famous. This is where YouTube has been a huge hit for musicians. By posting videos of yourself singing on YouTube you're now making yourself noticeable around the world. If your video becomes viewed a lot you have a good chance that records deal may contact you and want to sign you. A prime example of becoming noticed because of YouTube is the very successful Justin Bieber. He started off by doing singing competitions in his home town and then his mom put his videos on YouTube so his family could view them. He was eventually recognized by Scooter Braun who then brought him to L.A Reid. L.A Reid has made records with top singers like Beyonce, Mariah Carey ect. After meeting L.A Reid there was a battle for Justin Bieber between Justin Timberlake and Usher. Justin Bieber decided to sign with Usher. He is now one of the most popular singers and most paid. Now I could elaborate more on Justin Bieber but fortunately this isn't a biography about him. This is to demonstrate how YouTube can be a great way to get yourself noticed by performing your talents. I'm not saying everyone who posts videos on YouTube will get noticed but you have a better chance at getting noticed then if you don't upload a video.

Justin Bieber's most popular video that got him noticed.

You will be surprised on what videos get noticed. One person’s life I'm sure has changed since he uploaded his videos is Keenan Cahill. Keenan Cahill suffers from Maroteaux–Lamy syndrome, which is similar to Dwarfism. He started making YouTube videos for fun. The faces he makes and the fact that he doesn't always know the words makes the videos really funny and they became popular. By uploading these videos he has met famous people and has even had celebrities in his videos. Keenan’s first video where he met someone famous was 50 Cent as they performed the song Down on Me. I'm sure Keenan had no intention of becoming noticed but it shows us how YouTube gives us opportunities for anything that we've never had.

Keenan has met : - 50 Cent
- Jason Derulo
- LMFAO
- Katy Perry
- David Guetta
- Hot Chelle Rae ect.

YouTube employment

YouTube as everyone knows is a video sharing website that is used everyday. It has become more than just sharing videos in so many different ways. For some people they have actually become employees for YouTube. Yes you can get paid for posting videos on YouTube, seems easy right? Wrong. You must qualify in YouTubes criteria to get paid. There are several things you must have/do to qualify. You must create your own original videos and must own all copyrights, you have to upload videos on a regular basis, you need to get thousands of views on all of your videos and must have around 800 subscribers and must be 18 and older. A couple examples of YouTube members who are paid to post their videos are the following: Shaytards, Jenna Marbles and RayWilliamJohnson. Now I watch all of their videos but I think it is stupid that they get paid for using YouTube mostly because I don't have any good ideas to make my own channel. But in all honesty I believe that YouTube is very smart because if they keep paying these people to make videos it makes the viewers come back to watch more. Which is what I think separates YouTube from any other video sharing website. I would say it's a one of a kind job, and I'd love it. Imagine just having to video tape your family and make people laugh for a living. Sounds good to me, it's too bad I'm not funny. Now everyone's is going to be lazy and start making videos so they don't have to work. I wouldn't do that because I think 85% of people would fail but that's your choice. If you do succeed, I'll be sure to watch ;).
